Arshad represents the fifth generation of his illustrious musical family of Farukhabad Gharana. He has been vibrantly keeping his tradition alive by developing his own unique style of tabla playing. Arshad incorporates all Gharanas of tabla in his performances. He has an uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity rooted in formidable knowledge and study.

Arshad began his studies of tabla at the age of four under his uncle tabla maestro Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa and is the grandson of the legendary tabla maestro late Padma Bushan Ustad Ahmed Jaan Thirakwa Khan Sahib.

Arshad Khan is excellent in solo as well as a reliable accompanist for instruments and vocal music. He as received "TOP" grade from All Indian Radio (AIR) and regularly performs at the AIR & TV. He is also on the panel of ICCR as a performing artist.

For the years 2005-06, Arshad was awarded the NYCA Youth National award by the Navyug Youth Cultural Association, New Delhi.

Between 2019-2022, he was posted by ICCR at the High Commission of India Cultural Centre in Trinidad and Tobago as a tabla instructor for three years.

Currently, he is teaching tabla at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture, Embassy of India.

He has travelled and performed in the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Singapore, Vietnam and was recently posted by ICCR as a tabla instructor
at the Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
